Members of the Penfield Art Association are gearing up for the 2015 Spring Show, which takes place June 1 – 7 at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road.
The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. The show can be viewed 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday (June 1-4); 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday (June 5); 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (June 6); 2-3 p.m. Sunday (June7). Club members are on hand at all times to answer questions about the art, much of which will be available for purchase.
About 60 club members will be represented in the show, which will include approximately 160 two-dimensional works in a variety of media.
The judge for this year’s show is Western New York artist Catherine O’Neill. A watercolor painter, she has won numerous awards in local and national art shows including two consecutive best-of-show awards from the North East Watercolor Society International Exhibition and the W. D. Gorman Memorial Award from the American Watercolor Society’s 143rd International Exhibition. She paints a wide variety of subject matter using transparent watercolor, including Adirondack landscapes and scenes of her family life.
O’Neill is an exhibiting member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and the Buffalo Niagara Arts Association, and holds signature membership in a number of watercolor societies, including the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, the North East Watercolor Society, the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Society, Watercolor West, the Watercolor USA Honor Society, the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society. She has had paintings published in the annual Splash 9, 10, 11 and 15: The Best of Watercolor, North Light Books. She has written a chapter in Watercolor Secrets: An Inside Look at the Techniques of Award-Winning Splash Artists, July 2009. Her work was featured on the cover and in an article in the Spring 2010 edition of Watercolor Magazine. O’Neill has participated in juried exhibitions across the country, and has had solo exhibitions in Hamburg, Syracuse and Rome, N.Y.

Formed in 1963, the Penfield Art Association today has more than 100 members from throughout the Rochester area. The organization is open to artists of all skill levels and people interested in the two-dimensional visual arts.
