On Saturday, April 10, 2010 PAA member Christine Waara conducted a four hour workshop on doing a watercolor under painting and layering pastel on top. Just about 25 workshop participants attended the great workshop in Studio #458 in the Hungerford Building and there was much to learn. Christine did a fabulous demonstration of the technique while her husband, Pat, video taped the event. Participants sketched out their landscape subjects onto white Kitty Wallis Museum grade sanded pastel paper and then proceeded to do a watercolor under painting in complementary colors. Once the surface was dry, the application of pastel began. Some of the watercolor under painting is allowed to peek through creating a glow to your pastel landscape.
