Members of the Penfield Art Association are gearing up for the 2017 Spring Show, which takes place June 5 – 10 at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road.
The artists’ reception and awards ceremony will take place 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 6. The show can be viewed 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Thursday (June 5 – June 8); 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday (June 9); 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday (June 10). Club members are on hand at all times to answer questions about the art, much of which will be available for purchase.
The show includes 166 paintings by 56 members working in a variety of media.
The judge for this year’s show is Kathy Calderwood, a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, who has been a professor at Syracuse University and Nazareth College. Calderwood’s paintings have been exhibited in 27 states, seven European countries and Japan. Galleries and museums that have featured her work include the Memorial Art Gallery (Rochester), the Art Institute of Chicago, the American University Museum (Washington, D.C.), Los Angeles County Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum (Washington, D.C.), the Burchfield Penney Art Center (Buffalo), and the Everson Museum of Art (Syracuse). She was in the Florence Bienniale in 2011, Alan Stone’s Dystopia show 2015 and the RoCo solo show 2016.
Chair of the show is Betty Bird of Pittsford and co-chair is Sue Griepp of Irondequoit.
Formed in 1963, the Penfield Art Association today has more than 100 members from throughout the Rochester area. The organization is open to artists of all skill levels and people interested in the two-dimensional visual arts.
