Members of the Penfield Art Association are gearing up for the 2013 Spring Show, which takes place June 10 – 14 at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road.
The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place 7 – 9 p.m. Monday, June 10. The show can be viewed 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Thursday (June 10 – June 13); 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday (June 14); 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday (June 15); 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday (June 16). Club members are on hand at all times to answer questions about the art, much of which will be available for purchase.
The show will feature 179 works in a variety of media by 63 members. Chair for this year’s show is Dennis Wentworth, whose acrylic painting, “Birds of a Feather,” is shown here. The judge for this year’s show is Rochester artist Tom Lightfoot, associate professor of fine arts at Rochester Institute of Technology.
An exhibit of paintings by Monica Potter, winner of the 2013 PAA Scholarship Award, will be on display during the show. Potter, daughter of Christine and Michael Potter of Penfield, says she has always enjoyed art, but began to focus on that interest when she took a drawing class in 10th grade. She enjoys painting portraits of her favorite musicians, and she likes to work in watercolor, possibly, she says, because her mom is a watercolor painter. Monica has been accepted into the fine arts program at Rochester Institute of Technology, where she plans to begin studies this fall.
Formed in 1963, the Penfield Art Association today has more than 100 members from throughout the Rochester area. The organization is open to artists of all skill levels and people interested in the two-dimensional visual arts.
