Outstanding work in the Penfield Art Association’s 2017 Spring Show was recognized at an awards ceremony and reception June 6. The annual show at the Penfield Community Center featured 166 paintings in a variety of media by 55 PAA members.
Best of Show went to The Bag Lady (at right) by Linda Marzano.
Best Small Work went to Open Door to Healing by Richard Watkins.
Three “body of work” awards were presented to three members: Erika Hutch, Brenda Lyness and Teri Silsby.

The judge was Kathy Calderwood, a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, who has been a professor at Syracuse University and Nazareth College. Calderwood’s paintings have been exhibited in 27 states, seven European countries and Japan. Galleries and museums that have featured her work include the Memorial Art Gallery (Rochester), the Art Institute of Chicago, the American University Museum (Washington, D.C.), Los Angeles County Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum (Washington, D.C.), the Burchfield Penney Art Center (Buffalo), and the Everson Museum of Art (Syracuse). She was in the Florence Bienniale in 2011, Alan Stone’s Dystopia show 2015 and the RoCo (Rochester) solo show 2016.
