Rachel Wells, who will graduate from Penfield High School in June, will receive the annual Penfield Art Association student award for 2018.
An exhibit of her artwork will be included in the PAA 2018 Spring Show, which takes place June 4 – 9 at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road. Wells will receive her award at the reception and awards ceremony 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5.
Wells, the daughter of Anne and Bob Wells of Brighton, plans to begin a multi-disciplinary program with an arts focus at Smith College this fall. Her interest in art began in fourth grade. “I started drawing and I didn’t stop,” she says. “I’m a person who has to create, but I dream of being a creator, a storyteller, a teacher. Through my art, I want to entertain and influence people.”
PAA has presented a cash award to a PHS senior each year since 1976. The student is selected by the school’s art faculty.
The Penfield Art Association’s 54th annual spring exhibit features more than 160 works by 51 local artists. It runs through Saturday, June 9.
Formed in 1963, the Penfield Art Association today has more than 75 members from throughout the Rochester area. The organization is open to artists of all skill levels and people interested in the two-dimensional visual arts.
